“Patients suffering delusional episodes often focus their paranoia on an external tormentor. Usually one conforming to Jungian archetypes. In this case, a scarecrow.” -Jonathan Crane, Batman Begins
Psychiatrist and psychotherapist Carl Jung stated that there are five aspects to a person:
The product of individuation, which in his view is the process of integrating one's personality.
Because one tends to reject or remain ignorant of the least desirable aspects of one's personality, the shadow is largely negative, or the entirety of the unconscious, i.e., everything of which a person is not fully conscious.
The Anima/The Animus
In the unconscious of a man, this archetype finds expression as a feminine inner personality: anima; equivalently, in the unconscious of a woman it is expressed as a masculine inner personality: animus.
The mask people allow the world to see.
